Sociological and Economic Importance of the Concept of Poverty

Abstract

The concept of poverty has become very controversial on a global scale in recent years. Especially the rapid development of technology, the increase in the difference between income groups, inflation and increasing needs are among the most important reasons for this increase. Poverty with the simplest definition; It is the inability of individuals to have goods and services to sustain their lives and meet their needs, to meet their most basic needs and to not reach the income sources of the country they live in. Especially in recent years, the problem of poverty has affected the whole world and has become a threat to all developed and developing countries. Because the concept of poverty has economic, sociological and psychological aspects. After the Industrial Revolution, and especially today, the concept of poverty is getting deeper and more widespread in the whole world and in Turkey, and it affects all segments of the society. In addition, poverty has become more visible with the effects of mass media. The whole world is trying to take various measures and develop policies to deal with poverty. In this study, the sociological aspect of poverty and the changes in the poverty line, poverty rate and the number of poor people in Turkey in the last 8 years have been tried to be analyzed and interpreted from the sociological aspect.
