The Relationship Between Foreign Trade and Economic Growth: Causality Analysis
Dış Ticaret ve Ekonomik Büyüme İlişkisi: Nedensellik Analizi

Abstract

The relationship between foreign trade and economic growth is one of the main topics of economic research. Foreign trade, which provides the basis for economic development, stimulates economic growth by improving the optimal distribution of resources and productivity. Accordingly, the study aims to analyze the interaction between foreign trade and economic growth. For this aim, causality analysis using annual data set was carried out between 1960-2019 period started for Turkey. In the analysis, the relationship between the Gross Domestic Product (2010 = 100 at constant prices) and import and export variables is discussed. According to the Granger causality test results, the reason for GDP, exports and imports was found. While export and import are not the reasons for GDP, similarly, a mutual causality relationship between import and export was not determined on the basis of the period discussed, and the reasons for these results were discussed.
