Abstract
Climate change refers to long-term changes in temperatures and weather patterns. Such changes may be caused by natural events and human factors. Unfortunately, human activities have been the main cause of climate change since the 1800s, especially due to the burning of fossil fuels. In order to create a more livable and sustainable world, society has understood the importance of climate change and is trying to prevent irreversible mistakes with some agreements. The first step our country took internationally in the fight against climate change was the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2004. Later, the Paris Agreement was signed in 2016 and Türkiye’s 2053 carbon-neutral target was stated. With the entry into force of the 'European Green Deal' in 2019, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emission values in Europe by at least 55% by 2030, serious economic and political effects of climate change began to emerge. In our study, production-based CO2 emission values of our country and EU countries will be evaluated within the framework of the following criteria, in parallel with the "Fit for 55" criteria adopted by the European Union countries in 2021 as a continuation of the European Green Deal: The place of renewable energy resources in total energy resources, the amount of CO2 emissions caused by agriculture, forestry and fishing activities, the amount of CO2 emissions caused by transportation and storage activities.
